Some faucets and faucet accessories (such as aerators) are high-performing, water-efficient fixtures. If every household in America installed a water-efficient faucet or aerator, we could save more than 60 billion gallons of water annually.

If all U.S. households installed water-efficient appliances, the country would save more than 3 trillion gallons of water and more than $18 billion dollars per year! Water Conservation Tips:

Water is not a renewable resource. While we may never exhaust this resource, we can never increase it either. We can only recycle it. To conserve this precious and costly resource:

  • Repair or replace any dripping faucets promptly since a leaky faucet can waste gallons of water in a short period of time.
  • Install aerating, low-flow faucets and showerheads that can save up to 300 or more gallons per month.
  • Replace older, existing toilets with WaterSense labeled models to save up to 4,000 gallons of water per year.
  • Check with the local water authority or www.bewaterwise.com for any incentives to upgrade to high-efficiency plumbing fixtures.
  • Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.
  • Take short showers instead of baths.
  • Turn of the faucet when you brush your teeth.
  • Water your yard before 8:00 a.m. to reduce evaporation.
  • Use mulch around plants to keep hundreds of gallons of water from evaporating each year.
  • Check your sprinkler system for leaks, overspray and broken sprinkler heads.
  • Use a broom rather than a hose to clean of your driveways and sidewalks.
